Lauren DeFilippo’s work explores concepts of visionaries, outliers and overlooked places. Her short films have played at festivals internationally including Hot Docs, Slamdance Film Festival, Rooftop Films, TIFF’s Lightbox series, toured nationally with Black Maria Film Festival, and she was named New Emerging Talent at the Festival International de Programmes Audiovisuels in Biarritz, France. Her work has also been featured on The New York Times and ESPN.
Lauren recently returned to Insignia Films, where she first got her start in documentary film as a field and archival producer on a number of their films for PBS’s American Experience series. She is a graduate of Stanford University’s M.F.A. program in Documentary Film & Video and also holds an M.A. in English and American Literature and a B.A. in English from the University of Florida.
She, along with co-director Katherine Gorringe, are currently in production on Red Heaven, a feature-length documentary about humanity’s future on Mars.
