Nazenet Habtezghi, Coordinating Producer

Nazenet Habtezghi is a multimedia journalist and documentary filmmaker.

She started her career as an editor at Essence, the premier lifestyle magazine for African-American women. As its arts and entertainment editor, Nazenet developed culture stories, covered major music, book and film releases and iconic celebrities. In addition, she launched the publication’s video platform with the award-winning interactive web series, Will You Marry Me?I. As an executive producer on the project, her love of visual storytelling blossomed over the course of the series’ three-year run.

She left magazine journalism to follow her passion for documentaries at HBO, where she worked as a researcher and production associate on the network’s The Weight of the Nation. The Emmy-nominated four-part series focused on the prevalence of obesity and its health impact on children and adults. Since then, she’s produced for a wide range of commercial and network programs, including web shorts for a major public relations firm, the PBS series History Detectives, and a yet-to-be titled crime docu-series for the A&E channel. She’s currently the Coordinating Producer at Insignia Films where she plans and manages all production aspects for a three-part series that examines the United States’ experience in World War I.

She received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma.
